  2. Just got a call from the dean -- I'm being tenured and promoted to Associate Librarian!! 🎉 I am excited, exhausted, overwhelmed, and deeply aware of all the support -- at work, from colleagues, from family -- that I've had between my start here in Sept 2017 and today.

  3. In completely different news, on Tuesday night I was given my ham radio club's Ham of the Year award for 2 years of learning, engagement, and also being willing to help with the grunt work... and then I had about a day-and-a-half to enjoy that before this news.

  4. Putting this on here now because who knows how I'll be then. Sterling's cancer has returned and it's in his chest. He's already had an amputation, he's 15, we're not going to do anything drastic. We also don't have to say goodbye quite yet. Here he is yesterday:

  9. I have cloth napkins from a persistent stitches/AWE Fund auction and every time I use them, I think of @feministlib, who made them. As I grabbed one today it was like my stomach fell out. A reminder of all the ways she cared for others.

  15. I have gotten several messages this week like "hey Ruth, remember the contents of your vote are secret, but whether or not you vote is public" and I'm like -- DO YOU FOLKS REALIZE THIS KIND OF SOUNDS LIKE A THREAT? It is also a bizarre message to receive.

  17. Good morning, I'm thinking about how sick my mom was in the late 90s into the early 00s before she was finally diagnosed with terminal cancer spread throughout her GI system and abdomen. And despite being over 50... she never got a colonoscopy?

  18. bittersweet feeling -- I had to bow out of something with only part of the work completed, because I'm unable to complete it. It was a completely different kind of thing than the quilt. It was the right choice. I'm both glad and a little sad that I have something to celebrate.

  27. I just gave off the deepest sigh re: cataloging practices vs. inferred data after typing: while, in theory, “Pennsylvania State” might work in the Publisher, it doesn’t in practice because some of our older records have “[publisher not identified]” for publisher.

  29. It's just an interesting intellectual problem to write expectation tests for a catalog, which is a body of records representing an ever-changing collection. For example, if we ever buy "Phenomenological Gateway to Reality," this one test will start failing.
