  1. I'm gonna sit here snacking on crow after I mocked (not here) UMD's new federated search for limiting users to 60 characters... anyway... a 2500 character search broke stuff on my own federated search. I'm gonna suggest the character should be in the middle (maybe 256).

      1) nothing's broken right now 2) folks are on it for future 3) who pastes 2500 characters into a search box anyway? 4) I tried searching it on duckduckgo and it yelled at me for being too long.

        (also re: 256 -- 256 is too few characters for a DATABASE to represent some things like journal article titles... ask me how I know... anyway... but cutting off a search after 256 characters should provide more than enough context to surface the desired result first)
