    So churches would subscribe Focus on the Family/James Dobson's cassette tapes on things like "The spiritual training of children" or "Effective family devotions" or "The strong-willed child"... the new strategy, the new moral panic, I recall the ones post-Columbine.

      these were on the radio too, but with cassettes, parents could listen to them, make the kids listen if it seemed relevant, all talk about the thing... and they cared much more that it got heard, so there was no worry from Focus about passing them around in a church.

        these were much more intense than stuff like memes, IMO. And they shaped a lot of our childhoods.
