        I'd ask people to note the references to The Jungle/the late 1800s and understand that I am talking about my specific 4 great-grandmothers, food adulteration, a pre-FDA united states, etc., and not assume that I am wildly ignorant of food history. Thanks. @ruthbrarian/1458475233535483907

      I'm loving hearing what y'all are sharing about your own memories of your great-grandmothers! So please don't stop that. But the original point of my tweet was that they lived in the world later described by The Jungle and some of what they thought they were eating... wasn't.

    I'd much rather hear about your great-grandmothers being devoted to adding Velveeta to everything (what IS Velveeta anyway?) than about like... what actually went into canned meat that my NJ great-grandmothers almost certainly bought
